THOMAS J. DEMOTT, CPA
Tom is a founding partner of the firm. For the past thirty years, Tom has specialized in identifying and meeting the needs of professionals, individuals, and closely held businesses. His expertise includes mergers and acquisitions, financing, transition of ownership, tax planning, and related issues affecting businesses and individuals.
A native of Rochester, Tom received his BA degree in accounting from St. John Fisher. After graduating in 1971 Tom worked for several years in national and local accounting specializing in closely held businesses before founding DeMott & Smith PC in 1988.
Tom is active in the Rochester community. He is currently serving on the Accounting Advisory Board of St. John Fisher College, is a member of the SUNY Geneseo Business Advisory Council and the Rochester Chapter of the Estate Planning Council, and serves on the board of Pittsford Youth Services and The Salvation Army. He has been a lecturer for the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Foundation for Accounting Education. He has served on many boards of Rochester organizations over the years, and as guest lecturer for not-for-profit organizations. Tom was certified in 1974, and is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
